Entertainement : Carrie Underwood is Trying the Acting Thing

Carrie Underwood is crossing over for her film debut, signing up for Soul Surfer, the biopic of 19-year-old surfer Bethany Hamilton, who lost her arm in a shark attack but persevered to resume hanging 10 less than a month later.

Underwood will play the church youth leader in the movie, joining AnnaSophia Robb, Helen Hunt, Dennis Quaid and, in a nice convergence of nepotism, Lorraine Nicholson (daughter of Jack Nicholson) and Sean Brosnan, (son of Pierce Brosnan). Shooting kicked off in Hawaii this week.
