The company, already dealing with the recall of 8 million cars (most in America and Europe), filed papers at Japan’s transport ministry about the Prius on sale since 2009 May.

The company has already recalled millions of vehicles this year, because of accelerator problems.

It was unclear if the recall would be extended to Prius cars sold outside Japan.
